The Gold rush was a chaotic scramble to get the gold available in California. The gold rush brought plenty of immigrants from all over the world to the US. This large concentrated group all seeking riches brought danger and high crime rates. Eventually when the gold became harder to acquire, the larger mining operations prevailed.
