1838- Trail of Tears- Meredith

Description:
     The Trail of Tears was a forced migration of Native Americans to reservations in the Oklahoma area. Andrew Jackson is the president who ordered this mass dislocation and has a horrible reputation for it. The trek started in 1838 and ended in 1839. Twenty thousand native americans were forced in the bitter cold at gunpoint and nearly a quarter of them died en route. This travesty had horrible repercussions. The native americans weren't suited to be in lands other than that of their ancestors. They were completely unprepared and it was a challenge to learn how to survive. With their weakened populations, new lands, and rigid boundaries their entire world changed for the worse.

Significance: 
     The Trail of Tears caused for many uprises by the native americans. The Treaty of New Echota, Blackhawk war, and death/relocation of thousands of Indians were caused by the Trail of Tears. It also caused for further expansion and settling of westward lands. Many American died as well. There were a lot of rebellions from the native americans that took American lives. This led to a rise in tensions as well as further demonization of native americans. Ultimately, it also led to the downfall of Andrew Jackson as well as his reputation.
