1878 - Greenbacks founded - Meredith

Description:
The Greenback party was an anti-monopoly party that opposed the lowering of prices paid to farmers. They also pushed for eight hour work days and other pro-worker protective laws.

Significance:
The Greenbacks advocated for and won some more rights for workers and safety regulations that improved their lives. They led the way for the populist party.
