1812 - War of 1812 - Scott

Description

The War of 1812 was military dispute between the United States and Britain. The war was over many things, including British trade restrictions on the United States, and United States territorial expansion. Britain attempted to restrict trade between the United States and France. Britain would also use 
impressment on United States navy. This increased hostility towards Britain in the United States. While the United States did not achieve the objectives of the war, the war was still viewed as a victory for the United States. The war lasted 3 years despite a peace treaty being signed in 1814. 

Historical Figures

  • James Madison - President at the time of the war.
  • George IV - King of Britain during the war.
  • Napoleon I - Emperor of France during the war

Significance 

The war again demonstrated United States military superiority while also demonstrating dominance over Britain. This war also further advances the independence of the United States at the time. It shows the United States is militarily strong and has maintained military strength since the revolutionary war.
