1870 - 15th Amendment Ratified - Sam

Description

The ratification of the 15th amendment in the United States officially gave blacks the right to vote. This amendment also signified that all the promises that were made to black during the civil war had been fulfilled. Before this amendment there was the 13th and 14th amendments which granted freedom and citizenship however the 15th amendment finished off the job by giving the right to vote. Even though many legislatures found ways around the amendment, it was still a big stepping stone in the development of the country.

Significance

The 15th amendment signified the fulfillment of the freedom of the black man. This amendment didn't do everything it was supposed to, because people still found ways to exclude blacks from voting, but it did signify a major step forward for equal rights.
